Day 1

THE HEART OF THAILAND

Thursday.
Your Southeast Asian adventure begins in the city of Bangkok, a bustling metropolis with an exciting mix of ornate temples that stand alongside glamorous shopping malls and towering skyscrapers. To maximize your time and ensure a smooth start to your journey, an airport representative is waiting to meet you at the landing gate as soon as you enter the airport terminal. You are then assisted through fast-track immigration and customs procedures before meeting your guide who transfers you directly to your boutique hotel on the majestic Chao Phraya River. Filled with exquisite art and antiques, The Siam is an urban sanctuary set amidst 3 acres of lush gardens. After checking in, enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

CULTURE AND CUISINE IN BANGKOK

Day 2

Friday.
Travel by long tail boat to discover the city’s vast network of canals for an intriguing glimpse into local life. Then stop for lunch at the popular Supanniga Eating Room where exquisite Thai cuisine is served at a scenic location by the river. In the afternoon, visit the Grand Palace, one of the most dazzling examples of traditional Thai architecture, and continue to Wat Pho which houses an impressive reclining Buddha statue. Your visit is timed close to closing hour, so you can avoid the regular crowds. Later, take an exhilarating tuk tuk ride around colorful Chinatown before enjoying an elegant dining experience at Chakrabongse Villa, a royal residence built in 1908 as a retreat for HM Prince Chakrabongse.

Day 3

TRANSFER TO A LAND OF MANY TEMPLES

Saturday.
Enjoy a morning at leisure where you can take advantage of the hotel’s activities. Your choices include a rejuvenating spa treatment at Opium Spa, an authentic Thai cooking session, or an energetic Thai kickboxing session led by a professional “Muay Thai” fighter. In the afternoon, transfer to the airport for your flight to Siem Reap. A quaint town in northwest Cambodia, Siem Reap is most famous as the gateway to the legendary Angkor Archeological Park and its many-splendored temples. Upon arrival, you are fast-tracked through immigration procedures at the airport. Then visit the Angkor National Museum to explore a fascinating display of artifacts that provide an in-depth introduction to Khmer art and culture.

RUINS OF AN ANCIENT WALLED CITY

Day 4

Sunday.
Be transported to another time, another world as you begin to explore the Angkor Archeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which contains many iconic ruins and sites of important historical significance spread across a vast area of 162 acres. Pass through the South Gate of Angkor Thom, an ancient city enclosed by an outer wall and moat. Within its walls, the city holds the famous 4-faced Bayon, an imposing architectural masterpiece of the 12th century. Stroll around the ruins to see the impressive Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. Then continue your journey to visit Ta Prohm, a mysterious temple entwined by strangler figs which retains much of its lost-temple-in-the-jungle charm.

Day 5

SOUTHEAST ASIA’S GREATEST CIVILIZATION

Monday.
Travel in a local style remork to experience the magical sunrise over Angkor Wat. Watch the first rays of the sun hit the ancient stones and bathe the scene in magnificent color and light, a perfect photo moment. Walk around the temple to discover the decorative details and skilled architecture, a spectacular achievement of Southeast Asia's greatest civilization. Your Angkor adventure continues at Banteay Srei, a picturesque 10th-century temple which pre-dates Angkor Wat. Built entirely of pink sandstone, the temple is covered in exquisitely preserved carvings of unusual delicacy. In the evening, enjoy an optional gondola ride, sipping champagne over canapés while drifting along the ancient city moat at sunset.

THE PEARL OF ASIA AND AQUA MEKONG

Day 6

Tuesday,
Take a morning flight to Phnom Penh, the “Pearl of Asia”, which was once considered among the loveliest cities of French Indochina. Noted for its historical architecture, the city is defined by prominent colonial buildings scattered along grand boulevards. Visit the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda which serve as the royal residence of the King of Cambodia and offer a fascinating look at the extravagance of Khmer architecture. Then explore the displays at the National Museum, the country's leading historical and archaeological museum. In the afternoon, board the Aqua Mekong cruise where you are welcomed with sundowners and a traditional Apsara dance performance while sailing downstream along the might Mekong River.

Day 7

LOCAL HOMES AND VILLAGES IN RURAL VIETNAM

Wednesday.
As you wake up this morning, you will find yourself in another country as the boat continues its downstream river journey, crossing the border into the Vietnam. After border crossing procedures, continue sailing towards Tan Chau, a vibrant border town where you can ride around town on a xe loi, a local rickshaw, or pedal 18 kilometers to explore the peaceful island of Long Khanh. In the afternoon, visit My An Hung, a typical Mekong Delta village for a leisurely walk through verdant plantations with an option to explore the area by bike if you prefer. Stop at a local home where you are invited to taste the local fruits and listen to traditional folk songs performed by villagers, followed by a unique unicorn dance.

A GLIMPSE OF THE TRADITIONAL LIFE

Day 8

Thursday.
Begin the day at Binh Thanh, a traditional mat weaving village or opt to visit Sa Dec where you can peruse the vibrant market and visit the legendary house of Mr. Huynh Thuy Le, the real-life “lover” of Marguerite Duras, as depicted in her 1984 novel entitled ‘The Lover’. Then continue downstream, zigzagging along the waterway, passing by the lone fishermen who go about their daily routine on their long tail boats. The boat heads towards Cai Be where you can walk or ride a bike to explore the village and its high-roofed, open courtyard houses, some of which date back more than 100 years. The current inhabitants are gracious locals who warmly invite you into their homes for a glimpse inside the historical treasures.

Day 9

HO CHI MINH CITY DISCOVERY

Friday.
Disembark from the Aqua Mekong and begin a 2-hour transfer to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s bustling commercial center. En route, stop at Vinh Trang Pagoda, an important Mahayana Buddhist temple housing 3 large Buddha statues plus an impressive collection of bonsai trees. Upon arrival in Ho Chi Minh City, check in to Park Hyatt Saigon, a French colonial style property where you will discover a sense of urban luxury with a combination of sophisticated design, handcrafted details and modern-day comforts. Then head out to explore the city’s cultural and historical landmarks such as the Old Post Office and Notre Dame Cathedral, followed by a visit to bustling Chinatown to discover a range of traditional herbal remedies.

EXPLORING THE CU CHI TUNNELS AND STREET FOOD

Day 10

Saturday.
Take a 2-hour-drive northwest of Ho Chi Minh City, through the lush countryside of southern Vietnam, to visit the Cu Chi tunnels. Dug in 1948, the tunnel complex was used by the guerrilla army against the French and also served as a communications route, food and weapons caches as well as hospitals and living quarters during the Vietnam War. Explore the underground passages to understand more about the history and the resilience of Vietnamese fighters during combat. Then return to the city, stopping to visit the Presidential Palace and Historical Museum. In the early evening, discover the city’s enigmatic street food flavors on a delicious tour, sampling a variety of amazing street dishes which are popular among locals.

Day 11

A MELTING POT OF ARCHITECTURAL STYLES IN HOI AN

Sunday.
Head to the airport to board a domestic flight bound for Vietnam’s central coast region. After a 1.5-hour flight, you arrive at Danang airport where your guide is waiting to greet you and transfer you to the historic port town of Hoi An. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the ancient town is a picturesque melting pot of architectural styles with rows of Chinese shop houses, colorful temples and French colonial buildings. Upon arrival, check in to Four Seasons Resort The Nam Hai, an elegant property which is built around an historic temple and beautifully located on a private stretch of beach. Enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure, venturing out to explore the old town or simply relaxing at the hotel.

MEANDERING THROUGH AN ANCIENT TOWN

Day 12

Monday.
Spend the morning at leisure with free time to relax and enjoy the facilities at the resort, or explore the local neighborhood as you wish. Take the opportunity to enjoy a gentle stroll along the soft sands of the resort’s 1-kilometer beachfront or take a dip in the warm waters of the South China Sea. In the afternoon, head out to explore the pedestrianized streets of the old town, stopping to visit some of the important historical landmarks such as the Old House of Tan Ky, a well-preserved 18th century merchant's home, and a Japanese style wooden bridge featuring elaborate carvings and a covered walkway. Enjoy the laidback vibe as you meander through the ancient streets and admire the town’s diverse cultural influences.

Day 13

ARRIVE IN A BUSTLING CAPITAL

Tuesday.
After breakfast this morning, check out of your hotel and transfer to the airport for a domestic flight to Hanoi, the beating heart of Vietnam. A bustling, beautiful city, Hanoi is a city of many wonders, characterized by a rich blend of Chinese, French and other Southeast Asian influences. Its well-preserved colonial buildings stand alongside ancient pagodas, fascinating cultural museums and lively local markets. Upon arrival, your guide is waiting to greet you and accompany you to the grand Sofitel Legend Metropole, an iconic heritage property featuring colonial and neo-classical elements, conveniently located in the old city. Spend the remainder of the day relaxing at the hotel or exploring the city at leisure.

A TASTE OF HANOI

Day 14

Wednesday.
A light breakfast is recommended as there is lots of food to taste today. First, visit the mausoleum and cottage house of General Ho Chi Minh, and the One Pillar Pagoda. Then explore Hanoi’s culinary scene with the head of Hanoi Gastronomy Club and editor of Culinary Art magazine. Taste Banh Goi, a delicious pan-fried parcel, and Bun Cha, the famous local noodles. At Hang Da market, try assorted sweet fried fruits called O Mai. Stop for lunch at a rustic restaurant, Cha Ca La Vong, for their grilled fish in saffron-infused oil. Continue to the Temple of Literature and walk or ride a cyclo around the Old Quarter. Then head to Ngoc Son temple, in the middle of a lake. Later, enjoy a show at the Water Puppet Theater.

Please note: All the museums are closed on Monday and Friday and Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is closed from September to December each year for re-embalmment of the body and can only be visited from outside.

Day 15

WELCOME TO LAOS

Thursday.
Fly to Luang Prabang, a laid-back city that lies in a valley framed by the Nam Khan River and the mighty Mekong. The former royal capital city is known for its many Buddhist temples as well as traditional Lao wooden houses mixed with French colonial architecture. Upon landing, you are fast-tracked through immigration procedures and assisted with your VIP visa express on arrival. Then transfer to your hotel for check in. In the early evening your guide accompanies you to a nearby village where you can participate in a traditional Baci ceremony.  The ritual is often performed on important occasions such as weddings, births, or for welcoming guests and is a means of expressing good will and good luck to others.

HISTORY AND HERITAGE WITH LOCAL EXPERTS

Day 16

Friday.
Gain an overview of local history at the Royal Palace Museum and receive a blessing from a monk at Wat Xiengthong. Then continue to Wat Khili which houses the Buddhist Archive of Photography, an historic collection of 35,000 photographs collected over 120 years. Meet the founder or director for a personal tour of the exhibition. After lunch on the Mekong at Viewpoint Café, meet one of the co-founders of the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Center for an in-depth look into the city’s diverse ethnic groups. Visit Luang Prabang’s oldest temple, Wat Visoun, then head to Mount Phousi for panoramic views over the city. Later, embark on a magnificent sunset cruise including a glass of champagne or wine plus local snacks.

Please note: Receive a commemorative book by the founder of the Buddhist Archive of Photography. The archive is closed on weekends. Traditional Arts and Ethnology Center is closed on Mondays.

Day 17

ALMSGIVING AND BREAKFAST WITH A VIEW

Saturday.
Rise early this morning to witness the daily morning ritual of ‘Tak Bat’ or giving alms to the monks, with a chance to participate if you wish.  This is a unique ritual still followed by the locals in Luang Prabang.  Afterwards, you can also visit the fresh market to see the locals going about their day. Then drive to the picturesque Kuang Si Waterfall, arriving well before anyone else so you can have the beautiful place to yourself!  Prepared just for you, a gourmet picnic breakfast is served overlooking the falls. Satisfied after your meal, stop at the Bear Rescue Center and discover how they are working to protect the rare Asiatic Black Bear.  Return to town in the late morning and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

FINAL DEPARTURE OR BEACH EXTENSION

Day 18

Sunday.
If time permits, you may wish to explore more of Luang Prabang and its rich cultural heritage before heading to the airport for your final departure. Fly back to Bangkok where you can connect with your return flight home or continue to your next destination. Consider extending your stay and indulge in a few more nights at one of Thailand’s exotic beach resorts. Your choices include an elegant stay in Koh Yao Noi in the Andaman Sea, or laidback Samui where you can sip coconuts and lounge on the beach. Or perhaps you prefer a remote island resort located in a hidden corner of Koh Kood.  Whichever you choose, you will love the chance to swim in the warm ocean waters and feel the soft white sand beneath your feet.
